Charging has never been easier
As a car that marks the start of a new era for Volvo Cars, the all-electric Volvo EX90 is your perfect companion for a more sustainable family lifestyle. Charging your car has never been easier thanks to a range of smart technologies and services.
With the public charging experience fully integrated into the Volvo Cars app, you can choose from hundreds of thousands of public charging points around the world, pay for your charge and keep track of your charging progress in one easy-to-use interface. Meanwhile, you can check the real-time availability of charging points via Google Maps on the center screen of the infotainment system.
The Volvo EX90 will support Plug and Charge. When available, this means you can simply plug your car into a public charger that supports this technology and it will start charging automatically, with payment taken care of too.
Volvo is also constantly expanding the scope of our charging offer by adding more fast charging networks to our connected public charging ecosystem, so that drivers of Volvo electric cars can charge conveniently at attractive prices.
Clean electricity, also for your home
The Volvo Cars app is also the starting point for our home energy management offer, which helps you reduce CO2 emissions, save money and reduce the impact on the environment.
Initially available in select markets in the future, our home energy management offering includes a two-way wall box and an energy management system that helps you monitor and optimize your household’s energy consumption.
Through the smart charging function that comes to the Volvo Cars app, you can charge your Volvo EX90 at the best available time from a sustainable and family economic perspective. Now imagine that you can use that energy later, perhaps during peak periods when prices are higher and the energy mix less sustainable.
This is because the Volvo EX90 is our first car with all the necessary hardware to enable two-way charging. It is a technology where you can use the car battery as an additional energy supply, for example to power your home, other electrical devices or another electric Volvo car. We plan to make two-way charging available in the future, starting with select markets.
We are also looking at the possibility of allowing customers to sell energy back to the grid, connected collectively to form a virtual power plant. This can contribute to a more efficient and stable system with a lower COâ‚‚ footprint, while also generating income for you and us.

Inside the Volvo EX90, a 14.5-inch center screen is your gateway to one of the most advanced infotainment systems on offer, with Google built-in and 5G connectivity as standard where available. Where 5G is not available, we work with leading service providers to offer the best possible service worldwide. Finding your destination, streaming your favorite music, installing your favorite apps and much more is a breeze thanks to the intuitive layout.
In addition, the overall user experience inside the Volvo EX90 is designed on the principle of complexity made simple, avoiding information overload. The displays in the center stack and in front of the driver provide information in a smart way that can be customized to your preference. The Volvo EX90 will also be compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay.
Whether you are in manual, assisted or – in the future – autonomous driving mode, the driving mode will always be clearly displayed and recognisable. In this way, we avoid so-called mode confusion and contribute to focused, safe and pleasant driving.
The Volvo EX90 will be the first Volvo car to feature Dolby Atmos, which will be delivered by a reference-quality Bowers & Wilkins sound system with 25 speakers for immersive sound throughout the cabin.
With the Volvo EX90, we are also introducing phone key technology, which means you can leave the key fob at home and easily unlock the car with your mobile phone. Built on the industry standard UWB, our technology will be compatible with a wide range of phone brands and models, allowing you to share your key with family and friends when you need it.
Finally, with remote actions you can seamlessly move between your car and your home. Just ask Google to lock, heat or cool your Volvo EX90 from home. You can also immediately find out the battery charge level
