High-profile journalist Peter FitzSimons took a brutal sledge from comedian Matt Parkinson on Wednesday night.
Parkinson, who portrays the fearsome “Goliath” on Channel Seven game show The Chase Australia, jokingly referred to the Sydney Morning Herald columnist as a “hack” during a surprise outburst on the ABC’s Question Everything.
The 58-year-old made the comments during a discussion with co-hosts Wil Anderson and Jan Fran about the reality of working in Australian media.

“I love the roving reporter, especially the little amateur ones who don’t get very much done, you know,” Parkinson said.
He then impersonated a rookie reporter mumbling his way through a television interview.
“Hi, Terry Numbnuts here from Look At Me News … and a highly placed media source has told me that The Sydney Morning Herald is having problems with a long-term hack they can’t get rid of,” he said.

“And I said, ‘Gee, that’s a tough way to talk about Peter FitzSimons, especially because he’s your husband, Lisa,'” Parkinson continued, referring to FitzSimon’s wife Lisa Wilkinson (left)

He then took a stab at FitzSimons’ prolific career as a best-selling author.
And she said, “Have you ever read one of his books?” And I said, “No, fair point, Wilko.” Back to you in the studio, Wil and Jan, Parkinson added.

It is unclear whether Parkinson has any personal grievance with FitzSimons, or whether his comments were made in jest.
FitzSimons has published nearly 30 non-fiction books, mostly focusing on historical events.
He also wrote biographies of Nancy Wake, Kim Beazley, Nick Farr-Jones, Les Darcy, Steve Waugh and John Eales.
