How to set up Touch ID on your MacBook
1. On your Mac, select the Apple menu, go to System Preferences, and click Touch ID.
2. Click “Add Fingerprint”, enter your password, and then follow the on-screen instructions. If your Mac or Magic Keyboard has Touch ID, the sensor is located at the top right of the keyboard. You can add up to three fingerprints to your user account (you can store up to five fingerprints on your Mac).

Unlock your Mac: Use Touch ID to unlock this Mac when you wake it from sleep.
Apple Pay: Use Touch ID to complete purchases you make on this Mac with Apple Pay.
iTunes Store, App Store, and Apple Books: Use Touch ID to complete purchases you make on this Mac from Apple’s online stores.
Password AutoFill: Use Touch ID to automatically fill in usernames and passwords and autofill credit card information when prompted while using Safari and other apps.
Use Touch ID sensor for quick user switching: Use Touch ID to switch Mac user accounts.

How to rename or delete fingerprints
1. On your Mac, select the Apple menu, go to System Preferences, and click Touch ID.
2. Rename a fingerprint: Click the text below a fingerprint, then enter a name.
3. Delete a fingerprint: Click a fingerprint, enter your password, click OK, and then click Delete.
How to use Touch ID to unlock your MacBook Air, sign in, or switch users
1. To use Touch ID for these tasks, you must have already signed in to your MacBook by entering your password.
2. Unlock your Mac and some password-protected items: When you wake your Mac from sleep or open a password-protected item, just place your finger on Touch ID when prompted.
3. Log in from the login window: Click your name in the login window and place your finger on Touch ID.
4. Only user accounts that have a password can be unlocked with Touch ID. Sharing users and guest users cannot use Touch ID.
5. Switch users: Click the quick switch user menu in the menu bar, select another user, and place your finger on Touch ID.
6. To use Touch ID to switch to another user, you must have set up quick user switching, and the user you are switching to must have already logged in to the Mac by entering a password.
