Kmart customer shares $9 freezer hack: ‘Not the best idea’
A woman has left social media users torn after she shared her unique kitchen hack using a $9 Kmart item in a popular Facebook group.
The buyer posted a photo of her freezer and explained that she had used four stackable drawers from Kmart to make use of the limited space she had available.
“Great way to organize the freezer,” she captioned the photo.
The post quickly received over a thousand reactions and hundreds of comments from followers who shared different opinions.
Some people branded the idea “brilliant”, “fantastic” and “brilliant”, with one mother calling it a “game changer”.
“I’m running to Kmart now, thanks!” another replied, while a third said: “This is the best”.
“This is awesome,” said another user. “I would take it a step further and make meals in there. So you just have to take out a whole box to defrost for dinner.”
‘Do not do it’
However, there were many users who discouraged others from following her.
“No, don’t,” wrote one person. “These are not designed for freezing and will shatter, you’ve also significantly reduced air circulation and food won’t freeze properly.”
“Maybe not the best idea for a freezer,” added another. “No air flow would enter the shelves to freeze the goods. You will end up with off food.”
“I did the same, but several weeks later they were no longer good. Try and find some freezer safe stackable draws,” shared another, followed by another who said: “I did this but they broke… the temperature is too cold for the plastic”.
“My fridge repairman told me not to use large containers in the fridge or freezer as it restricts air flow, resulting in the fridge having to work harder,” replied one mother.
The original poster later addressed the comments, thanking everyone for their concern and saying she plans to add holes to the drawers to increase airflow.
According to Kmart’s website, Anko stackable drawers are best suited for neatly storing and organizing “toys, magazines and other everyday items.” But shoppers have shared reviews online saying they’ve used them in their pantry, refrigerator, laundry room, bathroom, car and study with great results.
