Yes, reigning UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo is nicknamed ‘Deus da Guerra’. In Portuguese, “Deus da Guerra” means God who gives war or the god of war.
The nickname is likely an homage to the Greek demigod and Spartan general Kratos from the popular video game series God of War. The red line the 34-year-old wears on his head during his fights is similar to the red mark that runs down Krato’s face in the video game series.
However, unlike the Greek demigod, the UFC’s ‘God of War’ hails from Para, Brazil. The fighter has lived up to his nickname in the Octagon as well. Figueiredo has an impressive mixed martial arts record consisting of 21 wins against only 2 losses and 1 draw.
With 9 knockout wins and 8 submission wins on his resume, the Brazilian is truly a threat to his opponents both on the feet and on the ground.

The fight card also sets the stage for the long-awaited return of former light-heavyweight champion Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. Rua is expected to take on Ihor Potieria at the event.
