How to control your Kia EV with the Kia Connect app

The Kia The Connect mobile application is a fascinating innovation that allows drivers to do more with their smartphones, and EV owners can access many features using the app. Phone as a Key (PaaS) technology is becoming a household name in the automotive industry, with most car manufacturers equipping their models with remote control services. For example, Hyundai’s Digital Key gives users full access to their cars using a smartphone app. Chevrolet owners can also download the myChevrolet app to remotely unlock and lock their vehicles. Chevrolet EV owners can also use the “Energy Assist” feature to find important information such as charge status and available range.

Like other automakers, Kia has caught the EV bug and invested in producing electric models. Kia already has two electric cars on the market, the Niro EV and the EV6. The EV6 has been compared to the Tesla Model S, and while the latter comes with better features, the former has some admirable features. In addition, Kia has major electrification plans. One of them will sell up to 1.2 all-electric models by 2030. The South Korean automaker also intends to improve the function of connected cars and deploy improved autonomous driving systems to future vehicles.

Today, one of the factors consumers are likely to consider when buying a new car is the automaker’s mobile app and the available features. For example, the Tesla mobile app can set the car’s temperature, control seat heating, honk the horn, set a preferred speed limit and much more. Similarly, Kia claims the Connect app offers “a new level of comfort and control.“The app allows drivers to experience full remote access to Kia, get regular diagnostic information about the car, launch multiple functions using a smartphone and enjoy an appealing user interface.

Kia Connect app features

The Kia Connect app is available for download on Apple phones and Android-enabled devices. While the app serves Kia’s entire range of electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid and mild hybrid models, the focus is on battery-powered vehicles. With Battery Control, EV owners can remotely start, stop or even schedule charging to maximize battery health. In addition, the app allows electric car owners to initiate, set and schedule climate control before entering the car. It is believed that EV batteries work best when exposed to the correct temperature.

Valet parking mode informs drivers about their vehicles even when they are not currently driving them. If someone else is driving, the valet parking mode monitors the car’s location and collects important details such as driving time, distance and top speed. The Find My Car function also ensures that drivers always know where their Kia is parked, even in large car parks. The only drawback is perhaps the app’s inability to provide users with information about charging stations. To access charging stations, Kia owners must use Kia Connected Services, which are integrated into the infotainment system. Interestingly, the FordPass and myChevrolet apps come with an online directory of public charging stations.
