Firebirds fall in second game at Acrisure Arena as Tucson wins 3-2

The second Coachella Valley Firebirds game at Acrisure Arena was much more about hockey and much less about partying.

Gone Tuesday night were the flame-throwing theatrics during player introductions that were the signature moment of Sunday’s debut performance. Fewer big wigs and dignitaries were present. The crowd, which in total was about 70% capacity, was loud and lively. But the atmosphere was not quite so supercharged.

The other thing missing tonight was a Firebirds win. Tucson scored a putback with 1.2 seconds left in the second period to take a 3-2 lead, and that’s how it ended as the Roadrunners earned the one-goal win.

The Firebirds fell to 15-6-3 on the season, while the Roadrunners improved to 13-9-4.

Kole Lind and Andrew Poturalski had the Firebirds’ goals, but it was the special teams — the power play and the penalty kill — that let them down in this one.
