Disgraced former goalkeeper Iker Casillas has again come under fire on social media after he tweeted “I’m Spanish” on Spain’s national day – just three days after he was widely condemned for jokingly tweeting that he was gay.
Casillas has come under fire for his “I’m gay” tweet on Sunday, which he later deleted after claiming his account had been hacked, despite the post being online for more than two hours.
Tweets from the 46-year-old ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper and the Spanish international in the days since have been met with backlash from fans on the platform.
And it continued on Wednesday when Casillas tweeted “I’m Spanish” to mark National Spain Day, an annual holiday held on October 12.
“Someone please take his phone away,” one user wrote, while another said: “I no longer distinguish between reality and hacking.”
A third said: “Very good, Iker. Tell us more bulls about yourself.

Another user said: ‘What is this guy’s password for it to get hacked every other day?’
Others referred to the fact that Casillas, 41, still hasn’t apologized for his “I’m gay” tweet.
“Yes, you’re Spanish, but are you at least sorry for saying you’re gay as a ‘joke’ and being disrespectful to an entire community? That’s what I want to know,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another added: “Today is National Day in Spain, but you must be deliberately seeking harm to write the same semantic formula for disaster PR you had just three days ago.”
Casillas, who split from his wife Sara Carbonero in March 2021 after five years of marriage, is believed to have tweeted the joke in response to media reports linking him with a number of women, including most recently Barcelona defender Gerard Pique’s ex Shakira.
Barcelona legend Carles Puyol also got involved when he tweeted “It’s time to tell our story Iker” in response to Casillas’ tweet, before later apologizing.
Openly gay Australian footballer Josh Cavallo hit out at the Spanish legend and Puyol. “It’s a difficult journey that all LGBTQ+ people have to go through,” he said.

Fans have taken to social media to slam Casillas for his latest social media post
“Seeing my role models and legends in the game make fun of coming out and my community is beyond disrespectful.”
Casillas was also asked if he had been hacked when he posted a picture from Greece on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old had signaled an overseas trip was on the cards with a first picture since he claimed his account had been hacked after the gay tweet showing him in a lift with a suitcase disappeared.
“We’re going on a plane,” he wrote next to the photo.
“On Tuesday, after he posted a photo of the iconic lighthouse in Chania on the northwest coast of the Greek island of Crete, an Instagram fan responded by asking him on social media: “Have you been hacked or are you in Greece? ‘

Casillas said he was “hacked” after the original post in which he appeared to come out as gay, to which Puyol responded by saying: “It’s time to tell our story, Iker”
