Gotham Knights arrived after much anticipation from legions of fans, and while the game may not have satisfied all expectations and desires, it’s still a decent game with plenty of great things to love. Of course, the biggest draw in Gotham Knight’s case the ability to play as one of Batman’s four protectors – in fact Robin, Bat girl, Nightwingand Red cap.
But with that comes the most dreaded question, which of these should you choose when you started your crusade against the Owl Court? Fear not, we’re here – this guide will cover everything you need to know about choosing the perfect hero in Gotham Knights.
Which character should I choose in Gotham Knights?
As mentioned earlier, you are free to choose between four different characters, and the best thing about this choice is that neither option is objectively superior to the others. Much like the comics that inspired it, Gotham Knights’ roster of characters are all pretty powerful in their own right – more than capable of finding their way out of any situation through careful use of their abilities.
Furthermore, you are free to switch between these characters before you go out each night, so the first choice doesn’t carry the weight that you might originally think. All that said, it is likely that you will want to stick to one character and master the specific playing style and the many nuances that come with it. As such, it is important to know the stronger colors of each hero before starting.
Robin Overview
Robin is going to be the most obvious choice for anyone looking to have a character that plays in a similar fashion to The Dark Knight. Much like Batman, Robin excels at being a stealthy characterthanks to his multitude of related abilities that allow him to turn invisible and take out enemies while sitting among others from vantage points.
But even when the kicks and punches start flying, Robin is a competent and nimble fighter who will use his momentum-based abilities to make short work of the toughest enemies in Gotham Knights. Of course, it goes without saying that Robin excels as a stealth character and frontal attacks should be avoided whenever possible.
As you earn action points and start investing them into Robin’s skill trees, he becomes all the more effective at stealth. He can do more damage when undetected, perform takedowns on larger enemies, or even regenerates health with each successful removal. Other abilities increase his damage output and critical hit chances in combat, and Judicious investments in these skill trees can make Robin a fairly balanced character all around.
Nightwing Overview
Nightwing is designed more as a support character, making him an obvious choice for anyone looking to get through the game with a buddy. He can revive his fallen comrades during battle, and many of his abilities have area of damagewhich should prove to be of great help to all who fight alongside you.
That said, Nightwing is also quite adept at handling himself. He is easily the most nimble character and can bounce around groups of enemies with relative ease. His AoE abilities are also a great option for crowd control – allowing you to fight your enemies on your terms.
Nightwing’s Skill Tree has a ton of abilities that make him much more powerful on the field, such as increased critical hit chance and critical hit damage along with better evasion options. But as mentioned before, Nightwing works best when paired with another character – which is when his abilities like revive darts and support abilities become really effective during combat.
Batgirl Overview
On the other side, anyone looking to get through the campaign solo should choose Batgirl – simply because of her self-healing abilities. Furthermore, she can also regenerate health, which should help you last against any fights that test your stamina or skill.
Batgirl is too a pretty good character when it comes to stealth as her hacking abilities allow you to disable cameras, hack weapons or remotely detonate mines – which will help thin the pack before you start damaging your opponents through frontal assaults.
Many of her abilities can increase her critical hit damage, which should be prioritized since damage output is going to be crucial during the later parts of the game. If you make legal use of your action points and invest in the abilities, you can dramatically increase her core stats like HP, damage and crit chance – which ultimately making her a tank character perfect for going solo in Gotham Knights.
Red Hood Overview
Red Hood feels like the odd one out of the bunch, primarily because he’s a varied character and has a playstyle that’s quite different from the other characters on offer. He is the ideal choice for anyone who likes to play it safe on the outside – His abilities are based on exactly that prospect.
Secure, you can get up close and fight your opponents, which also has a fear status effect on them. However, the most effective way to deal with enemies when playing as the Red Hood is to keep some distance and deal consistent damage through shots. He is one of the strongest charactersand with careful use of his abilities he is a force to be reckoned with.
As you progress through Red Hood’s Skill Trees, you will unlock abilities that increase the damage output of your firearms (which are still non-lethal, of course) along with the ability to perform more effective moves on larger enemies. You also get a lot more flexibility in how you deal with enemies As you grow, thanks to better damage opportunities and powerful melee.
