well its about time apple reigned a little, many other companies have had to toe the line for much less, how apple has gotten away with it for so long is beyond me, but its good to see apple finally has to bend over and allow others companies to operate, it’s nothing but a massive antitrust rabbit hole that apple doesn’t want to go down, as they would lose, this is to the benefit of all users on the platform, and apple can still have a sound mind about what they allow and will not

Unlike Apple, there are always Android Prepaid under $100 that are still very functional.

APKs for Apple basically. I already know that Apple is going to forcefully remove this

dbjungle, 1 hour agoWhat locks on Android?1. Safetynet almost killed custom rom + root community completely.
2. Access to the Android Data folder will be restricted starting with Android 12.
3. Ugly material you with limited color palettes choice
4. Customization option that comes before Pixel Android 12 is removed.
5. Using a third-party launcher with gesture navigation in Android 11 and 12 will cause poor animation. (Miui simply disable gesture navigation for third party launcher due to this problem.)
6. You cannot remove Google search widget and At a glance widget in Pixel Launcher.
7. Google doesn’t prevent 3rd party OEM from unlocking the phone’s bootloader, making much of the phone obsolete after the update is done. Only Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola and Google still unlock the bootloader.

NGL, iphones look more appealing than ever
Android looks less appealing than ever.
I mean Android manufacturers have been raising prices and pulling bs like crazy and now Android is going to lose one of its main selling points over iOS.

What a ti… moreAndroid doesn’t lock anything down, it’s still very open source and is much more open minded than Apple. Tim Cook can’t even make iMessage compatible with Google Messages, google has been trying to get apple to do it for a while now. Sure Knox can lock certain things for security, but it’s Samsung not Android.
Finally, Apple is opening their minds to the idea that software from websites and other stores can coexist to strengthen an OS and make it more open. It’s time for Apple to address and lower the drawbridge surrounding the operating system. Android definitely wins customization over Apple and will still be my first choice for open source and .apk download.

This is a very cool change. If there is a way to run a browser engine other than Safari and keep apps alive in the background, that would be a total game changer. Even the browser change alone would be pretty big. I still prefer Android for customization, but at least this will make iOS usable for me.

notafanboy, 2 hours agoThere is certainly a catch. Right?Yes, letting the EU control everything is going to end up like the 1940s
M
Thank you EU. in 2024 I might buy an iPhone, the cheapest one, with USB-C and a third-party app store

I didn’t mind their conservative approach to developers. it was good more private and secure. this means nothing since they will still take the same amount of money from developers. but iphones will be less secured. I don’t get people to celebrate this.
true , apple too, like Google has allowed organizations to use consumers’ private data . but they were only limited to politicians, spies and businessmen. but now all are exposed
