Among Us Launches Halloween Update

Innersloth is releasing a Halloween update for Among Us, which adds spooky cosmetic items, bug fixes, and improvements to the social deduction game.

Indie studio Innersloth has released a Halloween update for their most famous game: Among us. Version 2022.10.18 adds creepy cosmetic items, bug fixes and various improvements in Among us experience.

Although it was not played as much as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, Among us continues to be a popular game night and a way to make online friends around the world. In a Visionaries podcast episode, Innersloth co-founder Marcus Bromander admitted as much Among us was abandoned before its viral success. Still, with the implementation of social distancing and quarantine, gamers and non-gamers alike found enjoyment in the space-themed social deduction game. Even after its heyday, Innersloth continues to roll out changes big and small Among us for ardent fans.

Innersloth Community Manager Chris Dorsey explained the various Halloween updates in a developer log. Spooky decorations now adorn MIRA HQ and The Skeld. Chewie, a mini crewmate and one of those Among us cosmetic pets, will match the player’s chosen crewmate color. Cosmicubes, which contain various Halloween-themed items such as witch hats and werewolf ears, are available in the store until October 31. Dorsey also briefly mentioned an upcoming “Hide n Seek release” that is currently being playtested.

Additional updates address existing gameplay issues and aim to improve the user experience. While the map previously showed the location of an emergency meeting, the update allows players to see their last location at the time the meeting was called instead. The Among us the team also changed the UI to increase the visibility of the Kick and Ban buttons in the lobby and during crisis meetings. Players can now select the “Manage Account” link with a controller.

Players returning to Among us might be surprised at the number of changes that have been implemented since the game peaked in popularity. A shock may be that users have to create one Among us account to play. The extra security measure was introduced in an effort to increase accountability and prevent hacking, cheating and harassment. In this update, temporary accounts on Android and iOS will be able to randomize their names.

Too hardcore Among us fans, the updates are welcome additions to their gaming experience. Among us continues to grow and expand to different platforms, showing its versatility. In the upcoming version, screen shaking will be an option for consoles. To remember Among us VR launch, Innersloth will give players a free VR Visor cosmetic during the month of November.

Among us is available on PC, Android, iOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
