First and foremost: When you need to start a conversation and discover that the Google Meet camera isn’t working. If you try to start a meeting and find that there is no video, or you see an error message indicating that the camera is not available, you can usually fix this problem yourself.

Here are the seven most common ways to troubleshoot Google Meet when the app’s camera isn’t working.

Make sure the camera is turned on and connected

Most of the time, you probably use a webcam integrated into your device, like a camera built into your phone or laptop. However, if you’ve added an external plug-in webcam to your desktop computer, make sure it’s properly connected. Check that it is connected and working with another app. If you are using Windows, for example, click Start and type “camera”. Start Camera app when you see it in the search results, and make sure you can watch video in the app’s window. If not, plug it into a different USB port or try other troubleshooting steps to get it working.

Make sure Google Meet has permission to use the camera

It’s also possible that the camera isn’t working because Google Meet doesn’t have permission to use your camera.

Start on an iPhone Settings app and tap Privacy and security. Press Camera and secure Meeting is turned on by swiping the button to the right. If you have an Android, start Settings app and tap Apps. Press See all apps and press Meeting. Press Permissionsthereafter Camerasand activate it by selecting either Allow only while using the app or Ask every time.

Make sure Google Meet has camera permission on whatever device you’re using.

If you’re using Windows, go to Settings app and select Privacy and securitythereafter Camera. Take care of both Allow apps to access your camera and Allow desktop apps to access your camera activated by swiping the buttons to the right.

Or, if you’re using a Mac, open System selection and then select Security and privacy. click on Privacy the tab. click on Lock icon at the bottom to unlock the page. Click Camera to the left and make sure that Meeting is activated with a tick.

Make sure your browser has access to Google Meet

If, like most people, you use Google Meet in the Chrome browser, make sure it’s properly configured there as well. Open Chromeclick on three dots menu and select Settings. Then click on the Settings page Privacy and security. IN Privacy and security section, click Website Settingsand then Camera. IN Default behavior section, make sure that Websites may ask to use your camera is selected. Then start a Google Meet and click on Camera icon in the address bar at the top of the screen. Select Always allow access to the camera and microphone and click Finished.

If you use Google Meet in Chrome, make sure the camera is allowed there as well.

Make sure no other apps are using the camera

Are there any other apps already trying to use the camera? The camera can’t be shared, so if you’re already running an app that uses it, close that app and then restart Google Meet. Check the camera settings in Google Meet

Is Google Meet using the correct camera? If you have more than one camera connected to your device, it’s not uncommon for the app to try to use the wrong one, especially in Windows. Often the second camera is built into a VR headset, in a closed laptop, or not really installed anymore. To check, start Google Meet in a browser and click on three dots button at the bottom of the page, and then click Settings in the context menu. click on Video and then check Camera the drop-down menu. If necessary, select another camera and close the window.

Restart your computer

If you’ve gotten this far and nothing has worked, it could simply be a case of some intermittent software glitch preventing Google Meet from working properly. Often you can simply restart your computer or mobile device and then try again.

Update your device’s operating system

Finally, if nothing else has solved the problem, you may need to update your device’s operating system. Windows should automatically install the latest updates, but you can check by clicking on Start button and type “update”. Click Look for updates and then click on Look for updates button.
